BEEF BURGERS WITH SMOKY SAUCE RECIPE

Ingredients for burgers:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
2 tablespoons minced onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Ingredients for Smoky Sauce:
1-8 oz can tomato sauce
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons liquid smoke
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

1.
Start by combining all ingredients for the smoky sauce together in a medium saucepan.
Bring the mixture to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.

2.
Meanwhile, combine all the ingredients for the burgers together. Shape the mixture into
6 burger patties. Place patties on the rack of a broiler pan and preheat broiler. Place
the oven rack toward the top of the oven. Place the broiler pan into the oven
with the patties on it.

3.
Broil for 3-5 minutes and then turn patties over to broil for an additional 3-5 minutes or
until they reach the desired degree of doneness. Once the burger reach the desired
doneness, remove from oven and drain on paper towels. Transfer to a serving plate,
with or without a bun, and add the smoky sauce over the top of the patty.
Serve immediately.
