BROWNIES:
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons water
2 cups (12 ounce package) semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup pecan pieces

CARAMEL TOPPING:

25 Caramels, wrappers removed
1/4 cup (1 stick) butter
2 tablespoons milk

1.
Heat oven to 350°F. Line a 9-inch square baking pan with foil, extending foil over the edges of the pan.
Grease and flour the foil.

2.
In medium saucepan, combine sugar butter and water; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until
the mixture boils. Remove from heat. Immediately add 1 cup chocolate chips; stir until melted. Beat in
the eggs and vanilla until well blended. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; stir into chocolate mixture.
Spread batter into prepared pans.

3.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Meanwhile, prepare
Caramel Topping.

4.
With wrappers from caramels removed, add them to a microwave safe bowl along with the butter
and milk. Microwave on HIGH 1 minute; stir. Microwave an additional 1 to 2 minutes stirring every 30
seconds or so or until caramels are melted and the mixture is smooth.

5.
Remove brownies from oven and immediately and carefully spread the brownies with the caramel
topping. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup chocolate chips and pecans over topping. Cool completely in pan
on wire rack. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
